Don’t Get Stuck In The Thinking Hole

Good morning,

I have discovered a great explanation for something that I do a lot, but didn’t have a very good term for.

This is something that will help you get out of the problem-solving rut that many of us get into when we try and out-think something, our uni work, applying for jobs, does he like me, am I too sexy for my t-shirt? think think think, you name it.

Maybe you have a major problem with writing an assignment or putting together you resume.

Maybe you can’t get your housemate to pay their bills.

Maybe you are having trouble thinking of a new gift for your friend.

Whatever problem you may have, there are always a million, because that’s part of the beauty with living your life and mapping it out with great solutions.

There are no rules, and there is no manual.

…and there is definitely no guarantee of success.

The problem with trying to force-solve any issues is that you are using your conscious mind to do the heavy lifting.

You go over and over the possibilities, but you can’t get past the “gatekeeper” of the current ideas in your head.

There is a ceiling to your creativity when you try to problem-solve in this mode and it’s called

dum, dum, dum… (drum roll, cue the scary music)

Welcome to ‘the thinking hole’, this is when you have put on too many thinking hats and are being too creative. The lousy place where too many people get stuck trying to out-think their way to a successful idea. But do by all means wear a cool hat!

So how are you supposed to dig yourself out?

Simple really.

Let it go and stop thinking about it. Take your hat off and get some fresh air!

Put the idea, or the hat, on the shelf and go to the beach or go for a walk, personally I prefer a 15-20 min run, it really wakes me up and clears my head. While I’m changing my mindset in fresh air, I suddenly start thinking clearly about how I can change myself and what I can do to solve a problem.

This allows your subconscious mind to work on the problem instead.

You don’t have to tell it to, it just happens.

There are no rules and constraints in your subconscious, so just when you get relaxed and have completely forgotten about your issue, the solution will pop into your mind like magic.

It worked for Sigmund Freud, so it’ll work for you too.

If you want to know even more about solving all of your life problems using the power of your subconscious to take action, sign up for one of our workshops or make an appointment with one of our consultants now.

Have an awesome week!

Until next time, only wear a cool hat,

Sophia Demetriades
